We envision an America where all are truly equal, immigration is recognized as a strength, and no one is denied the essentials of life because of where he or she was born.
We stand with those who have come to the United States to raise their families and contribute to a stronger America. We advocate for inclusive public policy that extends the fundamental promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to immigrants and their families. And we engage immigrant communities to share accurate information and build power.
What started with fewer than a dozen nonprofits and we’ve grown to a coalition with more than 500 member organizations, building power along the way. PIF generated widespread opposition to the Trump Administration’s 2018 public charge proposal. More than 266,000 people and organizations spoke out – the overwhelming majority opposing the proposal. Our work toward our shared vision includes:
- Public Education & Community Outreach – PIF partners lift up immigrant voices, develop and share community education materials, and organize families to share their stories and fight for a better future.
- Partnering with Diverse Coalitions – PIF’s membership includes organizations that sit at a wide range of other tables: immigrants’ rights, health care access, economic opportunity, food security, affordable housing, reproductive rights, faith communities, children’s issues, disability rights, organized labor, and many others. We increase our impact by diversifying the voices calling for a more inclusive future.
- Working with Public Officials – From school board members to governors and state legislators to U.S. senators, responsible public servants understand that our nation’s diversity is its greatest strength. PIF works with policymakers at every level of government to shape immigrant-inclusive policies that secure a brighter future for immigrant families and America as a whole.
- Communication – PIF partners have contributed to thousands of news articles since 2018, and reached millions of people through digital outreach.
