Immigrant Families Advocate Selected for Annie E. Casey Foundation Fellowship
EL PASO, TEXAS — The Annie E. Casey Foundation announced Tuesday that Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition (PIF) director Adriana Cadena has been selected for a 23-month fellowship aimed at supporting leaders in driving specific, measurable improvements for young people and families. The 16-person class is the 13th in the Foundation’s Children and Family Fellowship, and other fellows come from the philanthropy, government, and nonprofit sectors.
Responding to the announcement, PIF released the following statement:
“I am deeply grateful to the Annie E. Casey Foundation for this remarkable opportunity. One-fourth of all children in the United States live in immigrant families, so our country cannot improve outcomes for children without improving outcomes for immigrant families. I want the U.S. to be a better place to be a child, and this fellowship presents a once-in-a-career opportunity to increase the impact of my work. And I can’t wait to learn from the amazing people in this year’s Children and Families Fellows class and the accomplished Casey fellows who came before.” – Adriana Cadena
“During this challenging time for people who are immigrants and their families, it’s particularly inspiring to see a leader on childhood development like the Annie E. Casey Foundation make the children in families that include immigrants a priority. I congratulate Adriana and as a longtime PIF executive committee member, I am excited for the amazing work she’ll be doing through the Children and Family Fellowship.” – Shelby Gonzales, Vice President for Immigration Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), and CBPP’s representative on PIF’s executive committee.
