250+ Orgs Oppose Trump Administration Attack on Immigrant Health Care Access

EL PASO, TEXAS — The Protecting Immigrant Families coalition (PIF) released a comment submitted today by 267 organizations in opposition to a proposal by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to restrict health care access for people with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Signatories include the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Coalition on Human Needs, Community Catalyst, Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, Families USA, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and UnidosUS, as well as other national organizations and organizations in 32 states and the District of Columbia.

“The unified opposition of hundreds of organizations across dozens of states sends a clear message to HHS – denying care to people with DACA is bad for our nation’s health,” said PIF director Adriana Cadena.

Last month, the Trump administration proposed to reverse regulations that made an estimated 100,000 people with DACA eligible for insurance through the Affordable Care Act “marketplace.” A 2024 National Immigration Law Center survey of people with DACA found that 94% are working and one-third are parents. People with DACA are parents to more than 250,000 US citizen children.

“Health care is critical for everyone,” said Cadena. “While we don’t expect the Trump administration will listen to the voices of the people, we do expect Congress to protect health care access for millions in immigrant families.”
