Context
Last year, H.R.1 stripped access to Medicaid, SNAP, ACA coverage, and other basic needs programs from an estimated 1.4 million lawfully present immigrants—deepening nearly 30 years of harmful exclusions rooted in the 1996 PRWORA welfare law. The LIFT the BAR Act would reverse these cruel and arbitrary restrictions by restoring eligibility, eliminating the five-year bar, and ensuring immigrant families can access the health, nutrition, and economic supports they need to thrive.
