EL PASO, TEXAS — The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) has recognized the Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition for its work to expand health and social services access for the 28% of the United States population living in immigrant families.
PIF was recognized Thursday as the 2025 recipient of NLIHC’s Sheila Crowley Housing Justice Award. The award is named for former NLIHC President and CEO Sheila Crowley, and goes to “an outstanding leader who has elevated the conversation around affordable housing for the lowest-income people in America.”
In announcing the award, NLIHC cited PIF’s “tireless fight for immigrant families’ access to quality health care, nutrition, housing, economic supports, and other public services.”
NLIHC is a long-standing PIF coalition member actively engaged on critical PIF priorities, including the current debate over the Trump administration’s proposal to evict lawfully present immigrants and US citizens living in immigrant families from federally subsidized housing. As a member of PIF’s steering committee, NLIHC plays a central role in shaping the coalition’s housing advocacy and broader strategic direction.
In response to the NLIHC announcement, PIF issued the following statements.
“The National Low Income Housing Coalition is pleased to present the Sheila Crowley Housing Justice Award to the Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition in recognition of their leadership in advocating for immigrant families nationwide. PIF unites experts in healthcare, nutrition, and housing to advance immigrants’ rights to safety and opportunity. Immigrants, like all people, possess inherent dignity and worth. They also play a vital role in addressing America’s housing crisis. Since 2018, PIF has served as a convener and valued partner in the pursuit of housing justice.” – Renee M. Willis, President and CEO, National Low Income Housing Coalition.
“We at the Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition are honored to receive the Sheila Crowley Housing Justice Award. Immigrant families drive America’s economy and enrich our nation’s culture. We are committed to ensuring that they have a safe and affordable place to live, grow, and thrive. We thank our friends at NLIHC for this honor and for their leadership in the fight for justice.” – Adriana Cadena, Executive Director, Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition.
