EL PASO, TEXAS — President Donald Trump, in his Tuesday State of the Union address, attacked immigrants of color and Democratic policymakers as fraudsters and announced that Vice President JD Vance will lead the administration’s “war on fraud” focused on Democrat-led states. Responding to the speech, the Protecting Immigrant Families coalition released the following statement from its executive director, Adriana Cadena.
“Like the administration’s violent ICE rampage, the investigation assault against American cities and states with Democratic policymakers is partisanship pure and simple. And like the ICE onslaught, the focus of this ‘war’ is based on racist slurs about immigrants of color and, in particular, Somali immigrant families. This is a war on reality, aiming to distract the American people from the fact that the administration and congressional Republicans have slashed lifelines like Medicaid and SNAP as the cost of living continues to soar – that’s the real abuse.”
