“The Herlinda Project” Webinar

Tools to Combat Public Charge Misinformation in Immigrant Communities

Half of people in immigrant families who needed help during the pandemic didn’t apply for safety net programs because of immigration concerns. Immigration attorneys are trusted sources of advice for these families, but many don’t have the information they need to accurately counsel clients about health care, nutrition assistance, and other essential benefits.

The current political climate is leaving even more immigrant families with uncertainty about their ability to access benefits like Medicaid, SNAP, and others. That’s why Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF), Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), and Share Our Strength/No Kid Hungry are launching The Herlinda Project—a new initiative designed to help immigration attorneys and others understand the basics of safety net programs. By equipping advocates with clear, accurate information, we can ensure more immigrant families access the care and support they need without fear or misinformation.

This project is created by attorneys, for attorneys to help you confidently guide your clients and their families by breaking down key safety net policies and public charge considerations.

During this webinar, we’ll go over the current state of public charge policy under the second Trump Administration. We’ll also share how state advocates can also play a crucial role by helping to develop tools like KeepYourBenefits.org, a user-friendly tool that helps families understand how to make choices about their own and their families’ benefits and specific instances in which a public charge test might apply to their situation. Learn how you can use these resources to empower immigrant communities with accurate, accessible information.
